Over 1.2 million tonnes of old electrical and electronic goods are disposed of as waste every year by UK households and this is increasing by 5% every year as we become more technical and live in an increasingly throwaway society. In 2003 to try and reduce the amount which ends up in land fill sites, where toxins may be released and harm the local community, through pollution of soil and water supplies, the government introduced a recycling scheme as part of a European plan.

Gordale, along with many other responsible retailers, pay a fee to a recycling scheme which uses all the money collected to improve recycling facilities throughout the UK.

Customers can take any unwanted electrical goods, irrespective of whether they buy a replacement item, to a council run recycling centre near to where they live. These unwanted items can then be recycled, repaired or disposed of in the safest manner possible so reducing the amount of hazardous waste and allowing the reuse of materials to save the world’s finite resources.

Please do make use of your recycling facility, do not throw any electrical/electronic item bearing the recycle logo into your general waste.

As a responsible retailer Gordale also recycles dry cell batteries. Recycling buckets can be found in our main shop and petrol station.
