Clematis Weekend
Meet visiting clematis expert Raymond Evison
on Sunday between 10.30am and 4.00pm to answer questions and he will be holding talks at 11.30am and 2.30pm.
In 1995 Raymond Evison was awarded RHS Victoria Medal of Honour for his outstanding service to British Horticulture. This was followed by an OBE (2000) for services to Horticulture. He was awarded the RHS Reginald Cory Memorial Cup in 2005 for far-reaching work in breeding and developing new clematis cultivars.
Raymond Evison has also written many books about Clematis. His first book "Making the Most of Clematis" was issued in 1977 and is now in its 3rd reprint. This was followed by "The Gardeners Guide to Growing Clematis" (1998), "Clematis for Everyone" (2000) and more recently “Clematis for Small Spaces”(2007), which earned him the Garden Media Guild award for Reference Book Of The Year.
A celebrated horticulturalist, Raymond has won over 20 gold medals at Chelsea, with 8 Chelsea gold medals for exhibits of clematis cultivars.
On Saturday Simon Catteral from Garden Centre Plants will be on hand to give expert advice.
Well known within the horticultural industry, Simon Catteral is a clematis enthusiast with vast experience. He will be available to offer useful hints and tips regarding choosing
and growing clematis.

Monday 6th August - Rumple - Children’s Entertainer
Come along and be captivated by Rumple’s explosive mix of comedy and magic. With doves, rabbits and balloon modelling, there is something for everyone.
Tuesday 7th August - Beady Beady
Come along to this fun, creative experience! Expand your jewellery collection by making your own jewellery to take home with you. Quick and easy to make pieces with a fabulous choice of beads and charms. Items for boys also available.
Wednesday 8th August - Circus Skills
Roll up, roll up, the circus is in town and the main attraction is...you! Join in with the juggling, have a go at unicycling, perfect your plate spinning and step out in style on a pair of stilts. This fun packed hour long circus workshop covers everything you need to start your apprenticeship in the big top. Your instructor will be a professional circus entertainer and will provide everything you need. All training is undertaken in a relaxed atmosphere and there’s no pressure to get you progressing to the high wire just yet. Simply join in and have lots of fun, and who knows? You could become... the star of the show!
Thursday 9th August - Reptiles with the Wirral Herpetological Society
Come along and find out about snakes, lizards, and even those eight legged creepy crawlies. Touch and hold these amazing creatures, a hands-on session with a difference!
Friday 10th August - Craft Scarecrow Festival
Hands on session, dress and paint your very own scarecrow, happy or scary you decide. Your life-size scarecrow will be yours to take home and will look great in any garden. So join in and have some fun.
Monday 13th August - Bees
Ever wondered why Bees have a fuzzy body? Take a closer look at our friendly bees and see just how important they are. Watch the bees working away and taste some honey. Then make a Bees wax candle to take home.
Tuesday 14th August - Teddy Bears Picnic
If you go down to Gordale today, you’re sure of a big surprise, if you go down to Gordale today, you’ll never believe your eyes…..today’s the day the teddy bears have their picnic! Bring your teddy bear for this fun picnic and listen to a very special story guaranteed to put smiles on kids’ and bears‘ faces alike. Includes picnic.
Wednesday 15th August - Birds of Prey
Rockcli_e Raptors - Display of Birds of Prey with talk and the chance to get up close. Opportunity to hold an owl at the end of the event and for parent/ guardians to take photos. Minimum age to hold 5yrs.
Thursday 16th August - Big Bug Hunt
Come along and hear all about the real world of Mr. Toad of Toad hall. Go on a bug hunt around the centre and see if you can find insects and worms to feed our very own Mr. Toad. Come and see what you can find.

We will be developing your child’s FUNdamentals of movement skills. We will also be playing all your children’s favourite games such as dodgeball, lots of tag games, obstacle courses, relays, invasion games among many more high-energy activities.

Make your own mask. Come on give it a go. Draw, paint and wear it to go home. Why not make two? You will have one hour to make something special, original, scary or funny.
