Gordale Guide to a Green Christmas

Choosing a Real Christmas Tree at Gordale.

All our trees come from top quality growers who care about their trees. Our trees are unpacked as soon as they arrive and are kept outside, but undercover, so that both you and the tree are happy.  For every tree which is harvested at least one more is planted in its place, you can recycle every part of your tree and nothing is nicer in your home at Christmas than a beautifully decorated, pine smelling real tree.

1.       Before you buy measure the space you have in your room and don’t be afraid to bring your tape measure with you. It might look small in our vast display space but when you get it home it might just over power the room.

2.       Choose a green tree with no sign of brown needles, a sturdy straight trunk and evenly spaced branches.

3.       Run your hand down the branches gently and the needles should stay fast.

4.       Take your tree ( or ask one of our staff ) to the netting area where it will be netted free of charge for you to take home or for a charge it can be delivered locally. Just ask our staff for details.

Caring for your Tree at Home

1.       Once at home unwrap your tree from its net and stand it upright ( leaning against a wall is fine ), in a bucket of water, outside, away from wind,  until you are ready to bring it in. Ideally this should be as near to Christmas Day as possible.

2.       When the day to decorate your tree comes. Saw off about 2.5cms from the end of the trunk.

3.       Put the tree into a specially designed stand which holds water or into a bucket full of pebbles and water.

4.       Place the tree in as cool a place as possible, away from radiators and fires.

5.       Decorate your tree.

6.       Regularly top up with water to which a little sugar has been added. You may find your tree needs as much as 2 litres per day.
