Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive

We’re proud to support the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE policy) – a government re-cycling scheme.

The WEEE policy was introduced because, every year, UK households are throwing away over 1.2 million tonnes of electrical and electronic goods. Sadly, as we become more technical we are also becoming an increasingly throwaway society, so the figure is increasing by 5% every year.

The aim of the scheme is to reduce the amount of waste in landfill sites, where toxins may be released and harm the local community by polluting soil and water supplies.

Along with many other responsible retailers, we pay a fee to a recycling scheme, which uses the money to improve recycling facilities throughout the UK.

The scheme enables customers to take any unwanted electrical goods, irrespective of whether they buy a replacement item, to a council run recycling centre in their area. These unwanted items are then recycled, repaired or disposed of in the safest manner possible, reducing the amount of hazardous waste and allowing the reuse of materials to save the world’s finite resources.

Being socially responsible is always a lovely idea, so please think carefully before disposing of any item.
