Wildlife

Your garden is not just for your enjoyment but also the home to a variety of different wildlife. It is getting increasingly hard for these animals and birds to survive as more of their natural habitats are built on or farmed. This is the ideal opportunity for you to do your bit for the environment and at the same time have great fun in watching their antics.

Plant shrubs like Buddleia, Amelanchier, Berberis, Hazel, Cotoneaster and Hebe or trees such as Silver Birch, Hawthorn and Beech and you will have a ‘habitat bar’ that will be exceptionally popular with insects, caterpillars, butterflies and birds. If you are fortunate to have a larger garden try and leave one area to go wild and sow some wild flowers. Not only will it provide food but also a home for a multitude of wildlife. You can always supplement this with a hedgehog box, bat box, bee box, toad house or bug hut all of which are available at Gordale.

Despite all this natural planting birds still appreciate their food supplies being supplemented and Gordale sells a wide range of bird tables and feeders and special bird food formulated for all types of bird. Quality is all important as feeding poor grade food can do more harm than good. Poor grade peanuts are more prone to a fungal infection which is poisonous to birds. All Gordale bird food meets the high standards required.
